Managing your Financial Years

Posted by Wes Hooper on 25th August 2010 in Updates

To organise your expenses and invoices, Moobiz has always needed to know when your financial year starts and ends. This lets us show you reports and provides a way to group lots of information together neatly.

It's also the way your accountant will view your financial information, so it makes sense for Moobiz to do the same.

Over the past couple of weeks, we've made several updates to make this take care of itself - one less thing to worry about.

Before, you'd need to create a new financial year within Moobiz yourself, specifying the start and end dates along with a title (for example '2010 - 2011') to describe it.

If you hadn't created one for the current date, you'd not be able to create an invoice etc. which was a barrier to getting things done!

We've now simplified this by adding a new 'Financial Year start date' to your Account Settings page. Once set, we take care of creating them for you automatically.

If you have a shortened or extended year (i.e. not 12 months) you can of course still edit a financial year to adjust accordingly.

Finally, we've removed the option to give a financial year a title and simply refer to them by date range such as '2010 - 2011'.
